Website Privacy Policy

Introduction

This policy explains what happens to information you provide or generate when you visit jhamiltontherapy.ca.

It covers the website only. If you become a client, a separate and more detailed privacy policy applies to your health information, and you'll be asked to read and sign it as part of your intake paperwork.

Note: all links in this policy open in a new browser tab for ease of reading.

What I collect

If you fill in the contact form, I receive whatever you enter. This includes the name you provide, your email address, and your message.

Please don't include detailed health information in the contact form. A sentence about what you're looking for is plenty. Anything more sensitive is better discussed in a consultation.

If you book an appointment, that happens on Jane, a Canadian practice management platform. Information you enter there is held by Jane under their privacy policy and my clinical one, not this policy.

Cookies and analytics

This site runs on Squarespace, which places cookies in your browser. Some are necessary for the site to function and to keep it secure. Others record anonymous information about how the site is used, such as which pages are visited and whether a visitor is new or returning.

When you first arrive you'll be shown a banner where you can accept or decline non-essential cookies. Declining doesn't limit anything on the site. You can change your mind at any time by clearing cookies for this site in your browser.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, Squarespace honours it automatically.

I also use Google Search Console, which reports which search terms lead people here. It reports totals only and doesn't identify individual visitors to me.

Why I collect it

Contact form information is used to reply to you, and for nothing else.

Cookie and analytics information is used to understand whether the site is working, i.e. whether people can find it and whether the pages are useful.

How long I keep it

Contact form messages are kept in my email as long as I require them, and I delete them when they’re no longer needed. If you get in touch via this website and don't become a client, you can ask me to delete your message.

How it's kept

Messages arrive in my email account, which is password-protected with two-factor authentication, and I'm the only person who reads them. However, no system is perfect. That's part of why I ask you not to put anything highly sensitive into a web form.

What I don't do

I don't sell, rent or trade your information. I don't share it with anyone except where the law requires it. I don't run advertising on this site and no advertiser receives anything about you.

Your choices

You can ask me what information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Email jhamiltontherapy@gmail.com and I'll process your request.

If you're unhappy with how your information has been handled, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.

Other websites

This site links to other places, such as Psychology Today, my Jane booking page, and support services. Once you follow a link you're on someone else's site under their policy, not mine.
